In Monalisa’s home community, a small village deep in the rainforest of Borneo, Indonesia, many families face a difficult choice: sell their land to secure their financial survival – risking deforestation and environmental destruction by large corporations – or protect the forest and accept economic hardship.

The documentary short film Monalisa – A Climate Story shows how the climate crisis is already shaping lives in the Global South today. It portrays a young woman who joins a reforestation initiative and works tirelessly to find a solution to the conflict within her community – one that does justice to both people and nature.
