Who do I see when I look in the mirror?
In Kitintale, a township in Kampala, Uganda, around 20,000 people live under challenging conditions. Many families face poverty, unemployment, HIV, and substance abuse. Yet the children and young people here hold on to one powerful thing: the belief in a better future.
Our photography project, created in collaboration with Skate Aid, shows how skateboarding helps young people in Kitintale discover who they are, build self-confidence, and unlock their potential.
The participants were not just subjects, but creative drivers of the project, contributing their own ideas and perspectives to the images. The photos were published as part of a social media campaign on Instagram. One of the images was also featured in the magazine Tell Your Story, distributed as a supplement in major publications such as DER SPIEGEL, Focus, and Die Zeit, reaching a circulation of over one million copies.
